EWIS and MOE deployed 52,800 computers to 800+ schools, boosting digital access and skills for 850,000+ Sri Lankan students.

Single Largest deployment of Computers in Sri Lanka

The Ministry of Education (MOE) of Sri Lanka, tasked with shaping primary and secondary education policy, launched the ambitious Mahindodaya 1000 Schools Technology Labs Project to strengthen digital literacy and language proficiency across the nation. EWIS was proud to be the strategic technology partner for this landmark initiative.

About our customer

The Ministry of Education is the central authority responsible for driving education reform and access for all school-aged children in Sri Lanka.

Challenges addressed

Sri Lanka faced a growing digital divide, particularly in rural and under-resourced schools. The challenge was to deploy modern technology infrastructure to thousands of schools nationwide while ensuring long-term sustainability and relevance.

Transformation delivered

EWIS deployed over 52,800 locally manufactured computers—compliant with global standards (CE, FCC, RoHS)—across more than 800 schools. Each school was equipped with two computer labs and 66 networked computers. These facilities now serve over 850,000 students island-wide, offering enhanced access to technology and improved English language skills.

Sustaining impact

To ensure ongoing success, EWIS conducted a nationwide training initiative—Customer Forums—to empower school staff with the knowledge to maintain and optimize their new infrastructure, marking the largest education technology deployment in Sri Lanka’s history.
