The EWIS Group, pioneers within the ICT industry in Sri Lanka, recently announced the launch of its Smart Interactive Display, the combined Digital Screen and Open Pluggable Specification which can establish the foundation of SMART Classrooms.

This Smart Interactive Display can co-exist with the traditional whiteboard or blackboard, transforming the way teachers educate students.

This all-new Smart Interactive Display, which is the latest addition to EWIS’s educational products portfolio, was first launched at Ladies’ College, Colombo 7 – the first school in Sri Lanka to launch and experience the benefits of  SMART classroom solutions in all classrooms.

“A SMART Interactive Display can be used by teachers and lecturers to adopt a more holistic teaching methodology – moving away from the traditional rote method of teaching,” commented E-Wis Information Systems Chief Operating Officer Nirmal Pieris.

EWIS ensured that the whole system was SMART, safe and secure – where teachers have total control of the whole SMART system which can be password-protected.

The EWIS Smart Interactive Display combines the features of a Smart Television and a Computer. The main features include the 10 Finger Multi-Point Touch Facility, with Higher Definition Resolution which has the capacity to even play Ultra High Definition videos and multiple ports which can be utilised to connect external displays or storage devices. With a track record of over 30 years, EWIS is dedicated in bringing advanced technology from around the world to our country, to help deliver creative, intelligent answers to customer’s business issues. It recently launched the new EWIS T800RG – Sri Lanka’s very first rugged device. Ideally manufactured for the requirement of the fisheries industry in Sri Lanka.

This launch is well timed with the Sri Lankan Government’s vision of adapting the international fisheries policy of the European Union through the introduction of the latest technology to the local fishing community and the fisheries industry.

This brand new EWIS T800RG device has been manufactured under the IP code 67 (International Protection Marking IEC standard 60529) which means that the device is protected against access to hazardous particles such as dust and the effects of temporary submission in water – for about 30 minutes in one m depth of water – resulting it being the ideal device for every Sri Lankan fisherman considering the time spent at sea, travel distance, working hours and work methods. Further, the company confirms that the EWIS T800RG has undergone stringent testing methods – thus proving that it is dustproof and waterproof. Most importantly it contains anti-corrosion particles which makes the device seaworthy.

The EWIS T800RG device comes with Intel Atom processor, 2GB/32GB RAM storage, 8” screen, 2MP+5MP camera, micro SIM slot, micro SD card, USB port, touch screen and wireless compatible. The device is also 4G enabled and has full strength in terms of signals. The tabs come with a Lithium-ion polymer battery (8500mAh/3.7V). The device comes with an inbuilt GPS system, which helps track the location of the trawler.

Smart classrooms have overtaken the educational market in Sri Lanka, promising advanced levels of learning in fun and technologically innovative ways. Ladies’ College Colombo is at the forefront of this new form of learning, featuring smart classrooms throughout the school. Thanks to the Old Girls’ Association of Ladies’ College Colombo, the College has been able to revolutionise classroom teaching by helping them become the first school in Sri Lanka to be fully equipped with interactive boards in each class.

A member of the OGA, Nirupa Karunaratne speaking to the Sunday Observer said, “So far we’ve got 26 interactive smart boards and we will be getting 18 more. Altogether there are 54 classrooms at Ladies’ College. We will start this new technology-based system once everything is fixed for all classes. The teachers will be given training on the use of interactive boards by the EWIS Company. The teachers will be provided with laptops and later on, we have ideas to provide laptops for the students as well.” It is hoped that these boards will transform each classroom into a state of the art learning space which will foster curiosity and encourage interactive learning.

The speed of the new system reflects the commitment of the school to embracing positive change and investing in technology. It will place Ladies’ College at the forefront of modern education in this country, leading the way towards a smarter Sri Lanka. A demonstration was conducted by EWIS at the launch about the software and on the use of interactive boards.
